PW and CJ Bradford (WA)
Category 3: Best workplace and safety practices in small business
Peter Bradford is a farmer from rural Western Australia. He is also a member of the rural fire brigade. After various difficult experiences in transporting water Peter invented a Portable Aluminium Standpipe System for filling tanks from overhead. It was identified that moving water can be heavy and hazardous especially after hours of fighting fires. Hence he remedied the problem by trial and error process, testing an idea of a stand pipe system. This was rigorously tested and proven to be safe and effective, as it lightens workload and unnecessary strain. Its popularity is growing in many other rural fire fighting teams.
