Bill Towie - Western Australia
Forest Products Commission
Bill Towie is the Forest Products Commission’s (FPC) Safety and Training Consultant, and has worked in the government forestry industry for over 25 years in various roles. His current role in the Human Resource Branch is one of coordination and consultancy and he is involved in occupational safety and health (OSH) related matters at all levels in the FPC.
As a forester with significant experience, Bill’s operational knowledge, teamed with his passion for ensuring the safety and health of all the FPC staff and its contractors, has led to an increased profile of OSH in the FPC.
Bill’s contributions and achievements to OSH are numerous and extend outside the FPC to the broader forestry industry context. His achievements include the:
- Establishment and maintenance of FPC OSH Committees and Safety and Health representatives
- Establishment and maintenance of FPC Peer Supporters Network
- Conducting Appropriate Workplace Behaviour training to FPC staff
- Providing high risk training to the Forestry Industry
- Providing feedback and advice on OSH related issues in the Forestry Industry
- Conducting safety audits with FPC Constractors, and fostering a solid partnership between Worksafe and FPC Contractors.
