Safety Bro
Sharpe Bros identified a key issue in maintaining health and safety in their work practices – complacency. Through consultation with staff and management, they developed a visual memory aid called 'Safety Bro' to remind workers and others of the need for safety at all times, including time for exercise and relaxation.
'Safety Bro' is a champion of safety in the workplace who encourages important safety and injury prevention requirements through the fun and effective slogans ‘Safety Bro' is working with you’ and ‘What would Safety Bro think?’. His image is reproduced on stickers which are displayed prominently around worksites, and Sharpe Bros uses his website www.safetybro.com.au, regular text-messages and a MySpace page www.myspace.com/safetybro to make occupational health and safety announcements for employees.
The introduction of Safety Bro' has resulted in renewed enthusiasm for safety issues that involves all employees. The acceptance of 'Safety Bro' has confirmed the belief by management that their employees were aware of safety procedures but just needed to be reminded to ‘play it safe’.
