Principles of Safe Design
The Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC) has developed guidance to help employers and individuals understand the principles of Safe Design for Work, and how these might be implemented in a workplace.
This guidance provides safe design information and examples to people who are involved with the design or modification of products, buildings, structures and processes used for work.
The guidance focuses on the key principles of safe design and aims to raise awareness of the importance of safe design and how it can be achieved.
The guidance sets the framework for the development of further detailed and practical guidance material.
This guidance is not intended to be adopted into OHS legislation.
The Guidance on the Principles of Safe Design for Work (PDF 761 kB) publication has been developed in conjunction with many industry sectors, and was revised during 2005/06 in response to public comment received.
Any feedback or additional case studies that could be suitable for future safe design publications can be e-mailed to safedesign@dewr.gov.au
